I attended a training class today at work that really has me thinking. The training was centered around business relationships with people outside our company. The information was well-presented and will be helpful in my job, but I'm just wondering why this kind of training is needed at all.
Why do we have to guard our words and actions so carefully? Why do we have to worry about giving away too much information, about accepting gifts and keeping appropriate relationships with people we do business with? The answer is simple - there are simply too many lawyers looking for work.
It's just sad that we can't have lunch or talk about our business needs or sit in a sales presentation without having to worry about someone taking advantage of us, or putting us in a "legally binding" position and suing our company for breach of contract or copywright infringement or whatever.
When the dollar is king and the bottom line is the final word and everything is acceptable as long as it is legal, right and wrong become very, very grey. And people can't just be people any longer - they have to refer to the rulebook or call a lawyer to know how to answer a simple question.
Just another argument for a real system of morality, based on solid principles, rather than a convoluted system of laws and regulations and structure. Mankind has been trying to build a "better society" for thousands of years, but it just seems that the more we build, the less we live.

Still Alive
OK, so "The Daily Dwiggy" is more like a bi-monthly publication. Guess my life isn't as exciting or news-worthy as I thought.
Are blogs ONLY for people who have a lot to say and/or a lot to show? Would anyone read a blog about work and family and faith and my mostly nerdy hobbies? Probably not. But perhaps I can send these posts to my Facebook page and then everyone will HAVE to read it! Ah ha! My evil scheme is coming together!!!
Now I just need to figure out how to sell something to generate revenue... ;-)
